The Institute of Mathematical Statistics is an international professional society, devoted to the development, dissemination, and application of statistics and probability. Established in 1935, the IMS currently has nearly 4,500 members worldwide.

Activities of the organization include sponsorship of journals and other scientific publications, organization of professional meetings, and cooperation with other scientific and overnmental organizations. The society’s journals include Statistical Science, a review and general interest journal, and the Annals of Applied Statistics, Annals of Statistics, Annals of Probability, and Annals of Applied Probability, which are considered to be among the premier journals in their areas. The IMS also publishes a widely lauded monograph series in statistics and probability.

Listings of meetings, including an international calendar of statistical events, as well as articles and news of interest to statisticians and probabilists in general, can be found in the IMS Bulletin.

Membership in the IMS is open to all, and dues and journal costs are remarkably low. Student memberships are also available.
